Mr. Claude Thomas “Tommy” Davis, age 64 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. Robert (Earl) Kenneth Maxwell, age 93 of Cookeville, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mrs. Sammie L. Hunter, age 68, of Gainesboro, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, at her residence. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time. She was born December 30, 1952, in Jackson County, to the late Samuel Bland and Zora Lee Fields Roberts. She was married to the late Billy Hershel Hunter. She worked as a seamstress. Survivors include three daughters, Samantha Haney of Cookeville, Tammy Wiggins and Amanda Boles, both of Gainesboro.

Ms. Barbara Marie Melton, age 78 of Sparta, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021. The family has chosen cremation. No services are scheduled at this time. Ms. Melton  was born October 29, 1943, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late William and Gladys Deadwyler Melton.

Mr. David Charles Poston, age 67 of Cookeville, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at his home. Mr. Poston chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and no services are planned. David was an auctioneer for 37 years at Manheim Nashville Auto Auction. He also auctioned at Car Max Auctions and was co-owner and auctioneer at Cookeville Auto Auction. David was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and Pa David.Survivors include his wife, Pat Poston; daughter, Rebekah and Shawn Hughes; son, Scott and Tonia Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward Poston, Sr, and Jo Webb Poston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Sarah Cannon Research Institute, or the American Cancer Society in memory of David Poston.

Ms. Betty Jo Murray, age 88 of Cookeville, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at her home. Ms. Murray’s wishes were to be cremated and no services are scheduled. She was born Tuesday, June 20, 1933, in Harriman. Survivors include two daughters, Jaymee Murray and Lisa (Jerry) Burgess, both of Cookeville; two sons, Murphy (Darlene) Murray of Harriman and Steve (Karen) Murray of Wytheville, VA.

Mr. Gaines Franklin “Frankie” Key, age 45 of Sparta, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his residence. A Celebration of Life service will be planned at a later date. Mr. Key was born September 3, 1976, in DeKalb County, to Angelia Darlene Zinsky and Edward Key, Jr. Frankie loved spending time fishing, playing poker, and visiting with his children, grandchildren, and family, whom he loved dearly. Survivors include his parents, Angelia Darlene (Mike) Zinsky and Gaines Edward “Eddie” Key, Jr., all of Sparta; children, Austin Cunningham, River Key, Rain (Myles) Conant and Clayson Key, all of Sparta.

Mr. Dennis Eugene Vanill, Sr., age 74 of Bloomington Springs, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, following a brief illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Medina, NY, at a later date. Mr. Vanill was born in Medina, NY, in 1947, the son of the late Martin Vanill and Patricia (Marks) Vanill. Dennis enlisted for four years and served honorably in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1968. He was transferred to the Naval Reserve the last two years after signing up for two terms in Vietnam. During his service, he earned commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. In his younger years, he was a ham radio enthusiast which carried over to his time in the military as a radioman. Dennis was an avid motorcyclist and loved to ride with his wife, Sharon. As a Vietnam Veteran, and member of the 18-7 Chapter of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, he was an ardent supporter of his fellow veterans, often riding to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., as well as traveling to the Moving Wall. Survivors include three children, Dennis Vanill, Jr. and wife, Beth Anne, Andrea Vanill, and Cassandra Taylor. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon.

Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Ruth Taylor Thrasher, age 81 of the Heard Ridge community, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 12:00 p.m., at St. John Cemetery. Mrs. Thrasher passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at her home. She was born in Pickett County on September 3, 1940, to the late William and Ezell Taylor.  he worked for many years as a seamstress. Ruth enjoyed sewing, working in her many orchards, and going to church. Her greatest joy was her family who she loved dearly. Survivors include her son, Joe Lee Thrasher and wife, Lesia, of Monroe. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Thrasher. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean (Dot) Ledford England, age 87 of Ravenscroft, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m., at DeRossett Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Old Bon Air Cemetery. Mrs. England passed away November 21, 2021, at her home. She was born April 1, 1934, in DeRossett, to David and Clara Belle Brock Ledford. She married James L. England on August 4, 1951. Dot worked as a hairdresser for many years and also at Federal Mogul (Wagner) until she retired. She loved working in her flower gardens until the very end. Survivors include four children, Bob England (Bertha), Bill England, Bruce England, and Beth Adams (Gary). She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Luna, age 74 of Sparta, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery in Cassville. Mrs. Luna passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. She was born June 13, 1947, in Columbus, OH, the daughter of the late George and Ursula Kleinhans Hoakes. Survivors include her husband, Danny Luna of Sparta; daughters, Sonia Thompson and Wendy (Jake) Jacobs, both of Murfreesboro; son, Darren (Amy) Good (Amy) of Jacksonville. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy “Moogie” Ray Wilkerson, age 76 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Wilkerson passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, at his home. He was born Sunday, October 21, 1945, in Carbon Hill, AL, to the late Walter Wilkerson, and Willowdean (Earley) Wilkerson. Moogie was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and Papa. Survivors include two daughters, Denise Musgrove and Tracy Dubravetz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Wilkerson; son, “Little Moogie” Jimbo Wilkerson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Sam Breeding Gardner, age 87 of Sparta, will held Wednesday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elrod Cemetery. Mr. Gardner passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at St. Thomas-Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born June 8, 1934. Sam was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and was a long-time member of the Cole’s Chapel community. Survivors include a grandson, Nathan Gardner; granddaughter, Sarah Gardner Simmons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Alberta Wilhite Gardner; son, Sam Kirk Gardner. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Lois Garrett, age 72 of Celina, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Celina. Burial will follow in the Key-Killmon Cemetery in the Pea Ridge Community of Clay County. Mrs. Garrett passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at her residence. She was born Friday, June 17, 1949, in Celina, to the late Doc and Ivy (Adams) Key. Betty was a homemaker and a babysitter to her grandchildren. She was a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother; she loved her family very much and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Bruce Garrett; two sons, Roger Garrett, Kenny Garrett. The family will receive friends Tuesday, until 9:00 p.m.

Graveside services for Ms. Evelyn Lorene (Schroeder) Gateley, age 89 of Baxter, will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 3:30 p.m., at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter. Ms. Gateley passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Wednesday, August 24, 1932, in La Vernia, TX, the daughter of the late Herman Julius Schroeder and the late Lena Johanna (Wagner) Schroeder. Evelyn was a loving sister, mother, Nana, and friend. Survivors include two daughters, Gayona and Sam Randolph and Sheryll Gamble; son, Robert and Gina Gateley. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by two sons, William Dale Gateley and Larry Ray Gateley.

Funeral services for Ms. Marie Wilmoth, age 93 of Algood, will be held Friday, November 26, at 1:30 p.m., in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Algood City Cemetery. Ms. Wilmoth passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. James “Jimmy” Richard Green, age 64 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, November 27, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home, in Water Valley, MS. Mr. Green passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at his home. He was born Sunday, November 25, 1956, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of the late Richard Simpson Green and the late Christine E. (Boyston) Green. Jimmy was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and PaPaw, and friend. He loved Atlanta Braves baseball, fixing things, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Green; three children, Michael Green, Amber and Brandon Brady, and Tyler and Kacey Green.

Graveside services for Mr. Tim Troy Holt, age 75 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Full military honors will be provided by the Veteran’s Honor Guard. Mr. Holt passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Cumberland Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1946, in Rockledge, FL, the son of the late Troy and Billie Poppell Holt. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Survivors include two sons, Davis Troy Holt (Gillian) of Dallas, TX, and Daniel Holt (Sarah) of Wake Forest, NC; a daughter, Tamara Holt of Arlington, TX; stepson, Randy Sprague of Jamestown, NY; stepdaughter, Sandy Kent (Glen) of Sparta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoHanna Holt.

A memorial service for Mrs. Carmin Arminta Vickers, age 53 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Mrs. Vickers passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at her home. She was born Tuesday, April 30, 1968, in Wayne, NE, the daughter of the late George Otte and Linda Otte Beasley (Frederick). Carmin was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She loved taking care of the kids that she had on her bus route. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Dwayne Vickers; two sons, Garrett Wayne Vickers and Levi Otte Vickers. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death a daughter, Megan May Tinker. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Erma Nell Sharp Kay, age 90 of Sparta and formerly of Colorado, will be held Saturday, November 27, at 1:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Kay passed away at Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Life Care Center of Sparta. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Memorial services for Mr. Will Anthony Paul, age 46 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, November 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mr. Paul passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Funeral services for Mr. John Howard Lalone, age 76 of Cookeville, will be held Monday, November 29, at 1:00 p.m,. at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will military honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Lalone passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at his home. He was born December 3, 1944, in Dearborn, MI, to the late Charles and Ethel Taylor Lalone. John served in the National Guard for eight years. In his younger days, he was the owner/operator of Druthers restaurant and several other businesses. He realized he was a salesman at heart and enjoyed talking to people. He spent several years selling cars before he suffered a disabling stroke at the age of 45. John found he had a passion for serving the Lord through mission trips and witnessing to others. His mission trips included Romania, Mexico, Venezuela, and Wheelwright, KY. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean Dodd Lalone; daughters, Janice (Randy) Scarlett and Sharon (Bobby) Williams. The family will receive friends Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearlie Marie (Farley) Tomesek, age 73 of Sylvania, OH and formerly of Monterey, will be held Monday, November 29, at 12:00 p.m., from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Burial will follow in West Cemetery in Cookeville. Mrs. Tomasek passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, OH. She was born Friday, June 4, 1948, in Monterey, to the late Jim and Rosetta Farley. Pearlie, better known as Marie by her co-workers and family, was employed by Washington Local School District at Shoreland Elementary School as a custodian. Her hobbies included spending her mornings at Super Fitness, taking trips with her sisters, traveling to the ocean, going to any casino around, tending to her flower gardens, and most important to her was spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jerry Tomesek; children, Terry (Maria) Cole, Mike (Teri) Tomesek, and Sherri Kish. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home, Monday, November 29, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.

A memorial gathering for Ms. Deborah Marie Hickey, age 61 of Sparta, will be held Tuesday, November 30, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Ms. Hickey passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville. She was born September 2, 1960, in Brawley, CA, the daughter of the late Elbert and Janet Taecker Hickey. Survivors include two sons, Elbert Lee Beasley (Stephanie) and Randy Beasley II, both of Sparta.
