Obituaries For Thursday, November 11

Mr. Jeff Denney, age 52 of Gainesboro, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at his residence. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time. Mr. Denney was born November 11, 1968, in Gallatin, to Alvin Denney and Sandra Denney. He was a Jehovah’s Witness. Survivors include his parents, Alvin and Sandra Denney of Scottsville, KY.

Mr. Bobby Jack Cole, age 82 of Allons, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, from the NHC Health Care in Cookeville. A private Celebration of Life service for the family will be held at a later date. Mr. Cole was born in Allons on Sunday, November 27, 1938, to the late Lester Homer and Annie Mae (Nivens) Cole. HE was a member of the Allons Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service ,where he worked at for 33 years. He loved his family, church family, and friends very much and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anna (Burkard) Cole of Allons; son and daughter in-law, Keith and Sarah Cole of Clearwater, FL; daughter, Kristi Moore of Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mr. James W. Breeding, age 93 of Algood, will be held Friday, November 12, at 10:00 a.m, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Breeding passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at NHC of Cookeville. He was born October 25, 1928, in Putnam County, to the late Talmadge and Willie Warren Breeding. James was U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He also formerly served as Putnam County Register of Deeds. James owned and operated West Side Market and West Ice Company until his retirement. He was a member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F&AM and Al Menah Shrine Temple. Survivors include two sons, Larry Breeding and Mike (Rhonda) Breeding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Harp Breeding. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 9:00 a.m until time of services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Geneva Thomas, age 78 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 12, at 12:00 p.m., at the Herron’s Chapel Church of Christ in Baxter. Burial will follow in the Palmer Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas passed away Monday, November 8, 2021. She was born on a farm on July 7, 1943, to the late Orley L. Maynard and Dorothy Lee Daniel Maynard. She loved dancing and reading. Mrs. Thomas helped her husband of 32 years, Jimmie Thomas, with the construction business they ran out of their home. Later on, she worked at H&R Block and rode the school bus as an aide. Barbara also helped at Little studios. Every Christmas, Barbara made thousands of treats and cookies to deliver to family, friends and the elderly. She loved the season and took joy in everything about it. Homemade crafts gave her happiness. She would make a plethora of crafts of yarn, thread, wood, and everything in between. Survivors include her daughter, Debbie (Aaron) Young; son, Johnny (DeAnn) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Thomas. The family will receive friends at Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, at Herron’s Chapel Church of Christ, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 p.m.

Memorial services for Mrs. Marion Gayle Choate Haggard, age 69 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m., at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Mrs. Haggard passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville. She was born May 27, 1952, in Greenbrier, to the late Floyd Rudolph and Helen Elizabeth Choate. She worked as a paralegal, realtor, and Director of Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. Gayle loved to travel and was always ready for good times and laughter. She never met a stranger and loved everyone. She faithfully worshipped and served God with her music and zest for life at Providence Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Roger Lynn Haggard; children, Laura Denise Haggard Witten (Aaron) of Leitchfield, KY, Stephen Lynn Haggard (Jodie) of Mechanicsville, MD. Funeral services for Esmeralda Chloe Hernandez, the infant daughter of Alvaro Hernandez and Marie Charlson of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m., from the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Esmeralda passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born Monday, November 1, 2021, in Cookeville. In addition to her parents, survivors include her twin sister, Valentina Rose Hernandez of Cookeville. The family will receive friends at Presley Funeral Home, Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marcia Chilton Martin, age 91 of Livingston, will be held Friday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Martin Cemetery. Mrs. Martin passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, from the Overton County Health and Rehab. She was born in Clay County on September 19, 1930, to the late Ebb and Mae Glidewell Chilton. She was a member of the Shiloh Church, and a 1950 graduate of Celina High School. Marcia enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and cooking for her family. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, James Martin of Livingston; daughters, Sherry (Phil) Nolan of Cookeville, and Pam (Larry) Head of Allons; son, Eddie (Rena) Martin of Rickman. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until time of services, at Speck Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Martin Cemetery Fund, by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Earl Webb, age 74 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery. Mr. Webb passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at NHC Healthcare Cookeville. He was born Wednesday, November 27, 1946, in Cookeville, the son of the late Willis Comer Webb and the late Pearlie Bell (Bennett) Webb. Jimmy was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Survivors include three children, Tina and Jack Smith, Donna and Ronnie Eldridge, and Scott and Tracey Webb. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Webb; mother of his children, Joy Scott. Visitation will be held Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mr. Louis “Lou” Roger Labrie, age 69 of Silver Point, will be held Friday, November 12, at 3:00 p.m., at Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Mr. Labrie died Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born February 12, 1952, in New Hampshire, to the late Leo and Theresa Labrie. Lou was a disabled Army veteran and lived in the Boma Community for over 35 years. He enjoyed cokes, marlboros, TV, camping and was a “unique individual.” Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Matthew Anderson of Portsmith, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Isaac and Kathrin Labrie of Sparta, Simon and Yasmine Labrie of Belgium. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery for the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Smith Gentry, age 99 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m., at The River Community Church. Burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Mabry Health Care and Rehabilitation in Gainesboro. The family will receive friends Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Graveside services for Mrs. JoHanna Ruth Holt, age 82 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Holt passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Cumberland Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1939, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Peterson Nelson. Survivors include her husband, Tim Holt of Sparta; son, Randy Sprague of Jamestown, NY; daughter, Sandy Kent of Sparta.

Funeral services for Mrs. Guadalupe Jose Mendez, age 59 of Cookeville and formerly of Guatemala, will be held Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m., in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Mendez passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born February 12, 1962 in Guatemala. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Jesse Gordon Boatman, age 83 of Baxter, will be held Saturday, November 13, at 12:00 p.m., at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Judd Cemetery. Mr. Boatman passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at his home. He was born Sunday, August 14, 1938, in Cookeville, the son of the late Harvey Boatman and the late Clara Carr Boatman. Jess was an Air Force veteran, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He worked as an industrial engineer and retired from Adams USA in Cookeville. He held a patent on a slide over baseball base. He loved nothing more than his life on the lake. His hobbies included ancestry research, fishing, photography, woodworking, MGs and music. He had many friends from coast to coast. Family was everything to him. He truly loved the Tennessee Volunteers, Tennessee Titans and NASCAR, and he also loved to volunteer his help. He was considered the sheriff of Austin Bottom. Survivors include two daughters, Mary and Larry Alexander of Vancouver, WA, and Pamela and Jay Kles of Yucaipa, CA; one son, Thomas and Kathy Boatman of Cookeville. The family will receive friends Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

A memorial service for Ms. Sharon Annette Burton, age 62 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m, at Oakwood Street Church of Christ. Ms. Burton passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021, at St. Thomas West Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 14, 1959, in Sparta, to the late Monroe Sevier & Evelyn Richmond Burton. She was a former employee of Mallory and LTD. Her proudest accomplishment was being Grandma Sharon to grandchildren. Survivors include her son, J.R. Drake and Mindy Patrick of Rock Island. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakwood Street Church of Christ.

Mr. Bill Langston, age 50 of Cookeville, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at his home. A gathering for friends and family will be held Sunday, November 14, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Jeanetta Rouse, age 88 of Sparta, will be held Sunday, November 14, at 3:00 p.m., at Oakwood Church Of Christ. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Mrs. Rouse passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Sparta Life Care Center. Elizabeth was born October 5, 1933, to the late James and Sara Leftwich in Sparta. She accepted Christ in her early 20’s and became a member of the Church of Christ, where she and her late husband, Charles, remained faithful servants throughout their lives. She had a true servant’s heart, devoted to caring for those in need, mentoring young women and children and spreading the Word of God. Elizabeth was a gracious hostess who loved sharing her beautiful home where her flower garden was the centerpiece. Survivors include siblings, James Clay (Susie) Sr. and Glenn Dale (Connie) Leftwich, all of Sparta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Foster Rouse. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Oakwood Church Of Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. Lester “D” Huddleston, age 92 of Reynoldsburg, OH and formerly of Cookeville, will be held Monday, November 15, at 2:30 p.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Palmer Cemetery. Mr. Huddleston passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was born Wednesday, July 10, 1929, the son of the late Ernest Huddleston and the late Lillian Jones Huddleston. He was the husband of the late Virginia Palmer Huddleston. Visitation will be held Monday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Presley Stewart, age 72 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Stewart passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was born October 2, 1949, in Cookeville, to the late Norma Bennett Smith and Floyd Leon “Todd” Stewart. Jerry was a devoted son, nephew, cousin, and friend. Jerry grew up in the Detroit area, where his love of cars began. He was a fanatic collector of MOPAR, Chrysler, and Dodge memorabilia, and shared his father’s love of antique car collecting. After graduating from Wayne State University, he journeyed back to Cookeville, and started a work career at K-Mart in the electronic department. Later, he worked his way into management and retired when his parents moved back home to Tennessee. After a time, Jerry embarked on the next phase of his work life at Wal-Mart. He worked there until he needed to take care of his mother. Jerry had a deep love of family; he loved having Sunday dinner with his grandparents. Later on, one of his favorite things was Saturday night dinner with his aunts and uncles. He was always ready to go out to eat, which led to him becoming a local guide for Google. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
