Mr. John Glyn-Jones, age 90 of Monterey, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Ms. Karen Sue Neel, age 72 of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. William “Bill” Edward Lester, age 65 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Lester chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. He was born October 7, 1956, in Detroit, MI, to the late William Thomas Lester and Doris Marie (McDaniel) Lester Brewer. Bill was a loving son, brother, uncle, and special friend. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his his mother, Doris Marie Brewer; five siblings, Rob Lester, Rose, and Johnny Whiteaker, Cindy and Bobby Reynolds, Jerry Lester, and Terri Duwve.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert “Bob” Schmidt, age 87, of the Cumberland Cove community of Monterey, will be conducted Thursday, November 4, at 4:00 p.m., from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, IL. Mr. Schmidt passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at his home in Monterey. He was born in Chicago on February 7, 1934, to the late George Schmidt and Stella Leona Schmidt-Kennedy. He spent his childhood years in Chicago and attended Evanston Township High School. He graduated with a Masters of Education from the University of Illinois in 1959. Bob had a passion for all sports and played football, basketball, and baseball as a young man. He was a Physical Education teacher and coached many sports including football, basketball, baseball, and tennis for Maine Township – Maine South and West High Schools. He retired after over 30 years from Maine South in 1993. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association in 1995. Bob and his wife, Marilyn, retired to Monterey in 2000, where they built a home nestled in the woods and mountains across from the Cumberland Cove Golf Course. They attended Trinity Assembly in Algood, and Cumberland Fellowship in Crossville. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Marilyn (Brown) Schmidt. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home, Thursday, November 4, from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at 4:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. David Glen Murphy, age 54 of Livingston, will be held Friday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m., from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home of Livingston. Burial will follow in the Okolona Cemetery in Overton County. Mr. Murphy passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at the Stone Crest Medical Center in Smyrna. He was born in Livingston on Friday, July 7, 1967, to Carl Edward Murphy and the late Zula Irene (Richardson) Murphy. David was a cook and loved his family and friends very much. Survivors include his father, Carl Edward Murphy, and a daughter, Heather Stover. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Marie Smallwood, age 71 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m., from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Mrs. Smallwood passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021. She was born Monday, November 14, 1949, in Warren, MI, the daughter of the late William and Agnes (Sliwinski) Yourdan. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister. She loved doing anything with her grandchildren and anything to do with Upperman sports. Helen was a kind soul and mother to all. Survivors include her husband, Randle Smallwood; daughters, Becky (Donna) Smallwood, Crystal (Kyle) Cooper, and Joy Matthews; son, Marty (Laura) Smallwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 5, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Masonic Funeral Rites for Mr. Jackie Lynn Hodge Jr., age 51 of Sparta, will be held Friday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with funeral services to immediately follow. Mr. Hodge passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born November 1, 1969, in Sparta, the son of Jackie Lynn Hodge Sr. and the late Shirley O’dell Hodge. Jackie was a member of the White County Rescue Squad and the White County Sheriff’s Department for several years. He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge #99. He loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and ford trucks. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer DeLynn Hodge of Sparta; daughters, Terri Elaine Hodge Morris (James) of Sparta, and Anna Victoria Ealey of Nashville; sons, Sean Todd Markus (Melissa) of Sparta, and Brandon Alexander Markus of Florida. The family will receive friends Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tracy Smith, age 33 of Gainesboro, will be held Friday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m., at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Mrs. Smith passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 10, 1988, in Warren, MI, to Nicholas Bianchi , Sr. and Cheryl Carlile. On August 27, 2016, she was married to Joshua Smith. She was a home health care worker. She is survived by her parents and her husband. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. A celebration of life gathering for Mr. John “Jack” William Carkner, age 84 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 5, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mr. Carkner passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 15, 1936, in Albany, NY, to the late John William and Effie Mae VanValkenburgh Carkner. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. Jack was employed as a supervisor with Mobil Oil Corporation in Albany, NY for over 30 years. He was friendly and outgoing, and enjoyed his Corvette, bowling and gardening. He was a good friend and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Anne Carkner; daughters, Karen (Leon) Schumacher, Lori (Jeff) Austin, and Jacki (Jed) York; son, John W. (Tania) Carkner, III. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Patricia Carkner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville/Putnam Co. A memorial gathering for Mr. Gary Leavon Seibers Jr., age 49 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, November 6, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Seibers passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. He was born January 1, 1972, in Cookeville, the son of the late Gary Seibers Sr. and Nina Faye Green. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Seibers of Sparta; two sons, Skyler Seibers and Hunter Seibers, both of Sparta; one daughter, Ashley Seibers of Sparta.

Funeral services for Mr. Jesse B. Ramsey, age 76 of the Vine Ridge community will be held Saturday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m., at Hanging Limb Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hanging Limb Cemetery. Mr. Ramsey passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Wednesday, July 11, 1945, In Wilder, to the late Dillard And Mildred Maxwell Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a coal miner and was retired from Nissan. He was a United States Vietnam War Army Veteran. Survivors include his wife of 49 Years, Charlene Miller Ramsey of the Vine Ridge community; daughters and sons-in-law, Allison And Steve Harris of Monterey, Cynthia And Corey Looper of the Lovejoy community; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Tara Ramsey Of Monterey. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home, Friday, November 5, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and at Hanging Limb Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.

Graveside services for Mrs. Alma Jean Johnson, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m., at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at her home of the last two years, The Mansions at Sandy Springs, GA. She was born May 8, 1930, in the Carter’s Creek community of Maury County, to the late Ulysses Elmo Fox and Georgia Mae Sears Fox. Mrs. Johnson excelled in school and took pride in developing and teaching others farming and leadership skills through the 4-H program. She was the valedictorian of Santa Fe High School (1948) and earned a 4-H scholarship which she used to attend and graduate from the University of Tennessee with a Home Economics degree in 1952. Mrs. Johnson moved to Cookeville in 1954 and from the start, served her chosen community. In addition to her 40-year career with the UT Agricultural Extension Service as a nutritionist, she led Home Demonstration Clubs, teaching household skills such as cooking and sewing. She volunteered for the Putnam County Fair and in various capacities at First United Methodist Church of Cookeville, where she was a member for approximately 65 years. The Upper Cumberland District of the Boy Scouts of America recognized her for her volunteer leadership during her sons’ time in scouting. Survivors include three sons, Ken (Elizabeth) Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Paul Johnson of Nashville, and Michael (Melissa Zimmerman) Johnson of Alexandria, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George Harvey Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the University of Tennessee Herbert School of Agriculture, the Alzheimer’s Association, or your local hospice.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. Billy R. Nolen age 83 of the Twin Oaks community, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m., from Good Hope Cemetery. Mr. Nolen passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021, from Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Overton County on October 12, 1937, to the late Francis Marion and Mae Bilbrey Nolen. After graduation from Livingston Academy, he joined the US Air Force. Upon discharge from the military, he became a TN Highway Patrolman. Later in life, he was a merchant and field office manager for a construction company. After retirement, Billy enjoyed gardening and cooking. He was especially known for his fried apple pies and dried-apple stack fruit cakes. Survivors include his twin sister, Betty Nolen Copeland of Cookeville, and sister, Katy Nolen Vaughn of Livingston. Memorial donations in memory of Billy Nolen may be made to the Good Hope Annex by contacting Speck Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. James Delon Copeland, age 75 of Livingston, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Mr. Copeland passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from the Overton County Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Overton County on March 17, 1946, to the late Herman and Stella Gore Copeland. He was a block and brick mason for many years. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and being in the outdoors, where he was known by his friends and family as mountain man. Survivors include his brothers, Joe Copeland of Hilham, Shirley Copeland of Livingston, and Allon Copeland of Livingston; sisters, Dortha Carr of Livingston, Linda Howell and husband, Wayne, of Gainesboro, and Irene Smith and husband, Bobby, of Livingston. The family will welcome friends Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Benjamin Scott Johnson, age 46 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m., at at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. urial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Mr. Johnson passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1975, in Cookeville, the son of Robert Michael Johnson and the late Patricia Gail Hix Boles. He was a truck driver for Tri-Star Transport. Survivors include his father, Michael (Beverly) Johnson of Cookeville; a daughter, Gracie Johnson of Baxter. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Naeomia Grace “Nickie Maynord” Stafford, age 79 of Allons, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home in Livingston. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery in Allons. Mrs. Stafford passed away Saturday, November 30, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 22, 1941, in Allons, to the late Vanious and Gracie Reeder Maynord. In 1964, Naeomia completed LPN school and began her life-long career caring for others as a nurse. She worked for just over 20  years at Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro. She also spent many years providing care to people in their homes. She was an excellent nurse and was so thankful for the gifts of caring that God gave her. She was a member of the Allons Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Bishop (Kevin) of Oneida, and Joanna Stafford of Allons. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lorinda Faye Bilyeu, age 51 of Sparta, will be held Sunday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Nash Cemetery in Baxter. Mrs. Bilyeu passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1970, in Sparta, the daughter of Kenneth and Anna Dunn Maxwell. Survivors include a son, Christopher Bumbalough of Sparta; a daughter, Kendra Marconi of Sparta. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. OD Colson, age 87 of Livingston, will be held Sunday, November 7, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home of Livingston. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery in Allons. Mr. Colson passed away Monday, November 2, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Friday, May 11, 1934, in the Willow Grove Community, to the late Calvin and Lena (Harvey) Colson. OD retired from the Chrysler Corporation, where he worked for 30 years. He enjoyed working on his farm, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Cormal Eudean (Stover) Colson; three sons, Ronnie Colson of Cookeville, Terry (Jeanette) Colson of Livingston, Daryl (Kim) Colson of Livingston; two daughters, Anita (Bob) Maleyof Fraser, MI, and Carol (Wayne) Ballard of Bloomington Springs. The family will welcome friends at Hall Funeral Home, Saturday, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., then on Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service for Ms. Pat J. Forkum, age 78 of Gainesboro, will be held Wednesday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m., at Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. Ms. Forkum passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her residence. She was born April 6, 1943 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Jonah and Edna Jackson Roberts. She was an administrative assistant for the University of Tennessee Extension Service for 33 years and also a State Farm Insurance Agent. She was a member of the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Patty (Lee) Kuykendall of Jemison, AL, and Leslie Clark of Gainesboro. Memorial donations may be made to the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church or Jackson County 4-H Clubs by contacting Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mr. Paul Richard Weist, age 83 of Monterey, will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Weist passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at his home. He was born Saturday, April 16, 1938, in Monterey, to the late Curtis Phillips and Mabel Tudor Phillips Weist. Mr. Weist and his wife, Clarice “Chris” Weist, owned and operated the Cup and Saucer restaurant in Monterey for over 20 years. He was a bread route salesperson for 45 years in Ohio and California, and was a member of Teamsters Union for 45 Years. He attended Monterey Church of the Nazarene and Hope In Christ Fellowship. Survivors include four daughters, Tina (Wayne) Lukaris of Crandall, TX, Teresa (Roland) Barnes of Monterey, Tammy (Keith) Moody of San Francisco, CA, Paula Weist (Tony Fries) of Fair Oaks, CA; one son, Paul Scott Weist of Stockton, CA. The family will receive friends at the graveside.
